Happy Friday Babes & Merry flu season!
This might be my least favorite time of the year… Transitioning from Winter to Spring is always a whirlwind especially down in the south. One day its 80 degrees with not a single cloud in the sky and the next is 40 with nonstop rain. To top it all off classes are starting to pick up and most people have their first exams this coming week (Eeek I have three so catch me studying all weekend)
With that being said school has been our main priority and we aren’t taking enough time actually take care of ourselves myself included. In order to do our best, we have to feel our best so I have created a list of reminders to help us all get back on the right track!
The 80/20 rule
Your diet should be 80 percent healthy and the other 20 should be the stuff you really crave. It is nearly impossible to say no to your fav dishes especially in the south when they are all so yummy. The trick is to create a balanced meal full of fresh leafy greens with protein and every so often add in your indulgence. My go to comfort food has always been ice cream and it is so hard to say no which is why I have found the best alternative… HALO TOP! If you have a major sweet tooth like me, you have to get this ASAP!
Late Night Snacking
Man on man is this a hard one to watch. Late night study sessions & coming home on the weekends after going out it is so easy to lean towards ordering a pizza but keep your pantry stocked with granola bars, dried fruit and nuts. These snack are full of protein and will help you not feel icky after eating them. They give you lots of good energy to keep your brain functioning and make you feel full!
Hydration
Water is your best friend in college & life in general. If you are looking to switch over from drinking soda try sparkling water or add fruit to add a tad bit of sweetness. If you are heading out to the bars order seltzer water and a lime with your preferred cocktail to drop the calories!
Sleep
This is easier said than done especially while taking a full course load at college. Aim to be in bed with the lights out at 11 and your will get the perfect about of sleep. If you aren’t getting enough sleep, try taking a mini nap for an hour to help recover and get your body on track for the next day. When you get plenty of sleep you are more active in your classes and motivated to get things done!
Take a step back
As a college student you are probably overwhelmed and stressed out but its okay to take a break and just breathe. With whatever situation you are in just know that this too will pass. Take a walk around campus, go get a coffee, grab lunch with a friend or go watch a movie… no matter what it is step away from the stress and focus on yourself. Once you have calmed down you can finish your project with an open mind and might even have new ideas!
I hope this helps get you get back on the right track if you were starting to go off the rails. Always remember to wash your hands and use hand sanitizer 24/7 during this season so you don’t get sick!
