Hi Babes!
2018 coming to an end I figured it would be good to do a reflection.
I tried something different this past year instead of doing New Year resolutions. I decided to spice it up a bit and pick a word to incorporate into my everyday life. I wanted to do this simply because I felt with my resolutions I never kept them for more than a month. (Please tell me I’m not the only one who gives up after a month haha) With picking a word I could easily blend it into my everyday lifestyle making it a habit not a job or chore.
After thinking about all that I wanted to get done in the year I started to panic a little bit. So much to do with not a lot of time, 365 days is not super long if you think about it. That’s when I stumbled on my word, courage! To face every challenge head on and not find the easy way out. A word that would most definitely push me out of my comfort zone.
The three lessons I learned:
-
MAKE MORE TIME FOR YOURSELF
This year I said no to others and more yes to me time. I saw myself getting pulled into situations I wasn’t necessarily on board with and losing the time that I got to focus on what I wanted to do. It was really hard at first for the people around me to hear the word “no” because I’m a people pleaser and wanted for everyone around me to be happy. But saying yes all the time got exhausting and my happiness is important too. Some of my favorite me time things that I did this year were…
- Running on the Tuscaloosa River Walk
- Going to a coffee shop (Turbo is my all-time favorite)
- Getting a Mani
- Driving around town
-
SPEAK YOUR MIND
I didn’t realize how much I was feeling inside that wasn’t getting published to the world. I tended to keep my mouth shut because what I was thinking didn’t fit with the current social norms. People aren’t mind readers even though I almost wish that they were. The people around me didn’t know what I was feeling or thinking if I didn’t start voicing what was going on inside of my head. I can honestly say that this was one of the best things that happened to me in 2018. Being able to create an opinion on a situation and share that with others is something that I will keep with me for a very long time.

PEOPLE ARE MORE LIKELY TO SAY SOMETHING NEGATIVE BEFORE THEY SAY SOMETHING POSITIVE.
Man oh man did I feel this one on a personal level. People are more willing to put others down than saying uplifting comments in fear of decreasing their own “cool kid” ego. Today it is so important to have a thick skin and realize that you are not going to please everyone and THAT’S OKAY! Just kill them with kindness and move on. This is easier said than done because you can’t always walk away from a friend or teacher but being the bigger person will hopefully give them the courage to reflect on their actions and seek for changes in their attitude.
The main thing that I achieved this year was 100% my individuality. I don’t know about you guys but I always felt the pressure to form myself into what society wanted me to become. Through the last couple of years, I lost bits and pieces of myself to toxic people, sticky situations and trying to be someone I wasn’t. 2018 was the year I got myself back to the person I wanted to be. Thank you to all of the incredibly powerful and supportive people in my life that has helped me to where I am today. That includes you reading this post and interacting with me on social media because you are helping me with one of my dreams!
All it takes is ONE person to believe in you. If you are looking for a sign to go start whatever you want to accomplish… THIS IS THAT SIGN! I will be that person you, if you need me to (:
See ya later 2018 & hello 2019!
I liked having a word last year but I really wanted to try and see if creating a couple goals would help me accomplish more in 2019. It’s easy to write goals down and only have yourself read them every so often but posting them for others to see keeps you accountable. Send me your goals this year so I can help you stay accountable during 2019!
Here are my goals for the year:
-Post two times a week
– Create a budget and stick to it
-Read at least six books (if you have any recommendations send them my way)
-Disconnect myself from social media after 6pm
– Create and commit to a skin care routine
– Call my relatives more often
-Send more handwritten notes
I’m starting off 2019 with a full heart of so much to be grateful for. I have lots of fabulous content in store for you guys & I can’t wait for it to all be put into motion! If there is something in specific that you want to see on The Daily LO, shoot me DM, email, comment, whatever you want and I will make sure to get it done for you (: I want to become the best resource for you with all things fashion and lifestyle!
